Based on the hermetic philosophies of Robert Fludd regarding systems of memory and processes of perception, this work uses the form of a memory room as a theater. Using performance and installation, Memory Theater operates on the model of a memory room to document, share and examine how perception, both visual and audible, enters the body. The transfer of perception will be documented using an internally fastened video camera. The camera will be attached to a metal headpiece as the documenting apparatus with clips to hold the mouth open and a tray holding the camera inside of the artist’s body. The camera will be connected to an output projector so that a real time live-fed projection of the captured video image taken from inside the body will be screened on the gallery wall. After each performance, the previously shot looping video will be projected between and during the subsequent performance indicating the residual process of the building of memory. This performance encourages collaboration, where the audience will be invited to perform and project their own internalization of perception.
